Overview
The internals that support and enhance trays and packings
A distillation or absorption column is only as good as its internals. The trays and packings get the headlines, but it’s the distributors, supports, hold-down grids and feed devices that determine how well they actually perform — ensuring uniform flow distribution, mechanical support and levelling.
Evergreen designs and fabricates a complete range of column internals to integrate with our EVERFRAC trays and EVERPACK packings — or as drop-in retrofits for any existing column. Engineering support includes hydraulic design, distributor sizing, and CFD modelling where the service warrants.
Range
Five families of internals
Liquid Distributors
Trough, pipe, and orifice-pan type distributor designs are engineered for uniform liquid distribution across the packed-bed cross-section. Liquid distributors are critical for structured packing performance and absorption efficiency. Available in distributor and collector-redistributor configurations for high beds.
Support Grids & Support Plates
Support grids carry the weight of the packings above them. Gas-injection support plates (typically used with random packings) carry the packing weight while maximising open area for vapour flow. Beam-and-grid construction or solid-bar construction for heavier-duty services is available. Sized for the full hydraulic load.

Feed Devices / Inlet Pipes
Engineered feed inlet devices, vapour-distribution pipes, and flash-feed devices. Feed devices reduce inlet momentum, prevent tray damage and packing erosion, and ensure even inlet distribution.
Chimney Trays
Liquid collection trays — they collect all descending liquid for re-distribution, side-draw, pump-around return, or quench duties. Engineered for vapour bypass through chimneys with hat or cap covers.
Hold-down Grids / Bed Limiters
Prevent bed lifting and packing migration during process upsets and high vapour-load events. Bolted bed limiters are used for random packings; weighted hold-down grids are used for structured packings. They can be integrated into distributors to reduce the column height.

Engineering support
Sized for the column, not the catalogue
Internals are engineered to suit the column geometry, service and operating conditions, for both revamps and new installations.
