Overview
A complete tray portfolio
Valve trays are widely used in fractionation columns. Compared to bubble caps, valve trays offer higher capacity, higher efficiency, better fouling resistance, and lower pressure drop. Compared to sieve trays, valve trays release vapour laterally, leading to lower entrainment, higher capacity, and a wider operating range.
Evergreen offers a complete portfolio across both movable and fixed valves, conventional and mini configurations, and high-performance and high-capacity families. From standard refinery fractionators — crude columns, FCC, hydrocrackers — to high-pressure C2/C3 splitters, our engineers design for capacity, separation performance, and reliable uptime.
Every EVERFRAC tray can also be built with our proprietary boltless construction.
EVER-CON
Conventional valve trays
EV1
Round valve, one-piece
Conventional round valve with one-piece construction and flat orifice. Anti-spin features as standard. Available in different leg lengths to accommodate various tray thicknesses. Higher capacity and wider operating range than sieve trays. Available in dual weights.
EC1
Round valve, two-piece (cage)
Two-piece construction — moving valve cap with a cage fixed to the deck. Same capacity as EV1 but with higher operating range and lower tendency to weep. More robust: cage difficult to dislodge during operation.
EBD
Rectangular valve, single-piece
Single-piece rectangular valve. Operating characteristics similar to EV1. Typically offered as drop-in replacement for other OEM rectangular valve trays.
EV4
Venturi-orifice valve
Construction similar to EV1 but with a venturi orifice in the tray deck. Same capacity as EV1 with lower pressure drop.
EVFS
Conventional fixed valve
Fixed-valve construction involves embossing the tray deck. Capacity matches EV1 but with lower pressure drops. Variable net rise can be set per process conditions. Larger size of fixed valves provides better fouling resistance.
Mini valves
Higher capacity, lower entrainment
Mini valves use proprietary shapes that increase the density of valves on the tray deck. Capacity gains in excess of 10% over conventional valve trays have been observed.
EV0M
Mini fixed valve
They are punched directly from the tray deck with a proprietary shape, oriented parallel to the liquid flow. Allows for a larger number of valves to be accommodated on the tray deck, provides uniform distribution, and has no moving parts. A 10%+ capacity gain over conventional valves has been observed with these valves.
EV0P
Mini fixed directional valve
Proprietary shape with uni-directional vapour release. Flexibility to orient in different directions. Eliminates stagnant liquid zones.
EV1M
Mini movable valve
Allows for more valves to be fitted on the tray deck. They have a wider operating range than fixed valves. Available in dual weights.
EMVG
Mini fixed valve
Fixed-valve construction involves embossing rectangular, tapered valves in the tray deck. They can provide 15%+ capacity gains over conventional valves. These valves are smaller in size than EVFS valves.
High performance
EVER-HPT and EVERFRAC
EVER-HPT
High Performance Trays
Active area improvement, inlet area optimisation, and enhanced downcomer layouts. Multi-chordal side downcomers, truncated downcomers, stepped-in or multi-stage designs.
- Performance gains of more than 15%
- Lower tray pressure drop
- Same or higher efficiency
- Eliminates stagnant liquid zones
EVERFRAC
High Capacity Trays
EV0M fixed and EV0P directional valves combined with multi-chordal or truncated downcomers and boltless construction. Turndown ratio (maximum:minimum load): 2.5:1 standard, up to 4:1 with EV1M valves.
- 15%–30% higher capacity than conventional
- Long flow path lengths
- Boltless construction allows for more valves on the tray panels
Other conventional trays
Bubble cap, sieve, baffle, and dual-flow
EVER-CON BC
Bubble Cap Trays
Low liquid rate services or where a turndown ratio (maximum:minimum load) of 10:1 is required. Caps available from 2″ to 6″, slotted or un-slotted. It also has reaction-tray applications where high residence time is needed.
EVER-CON SV
Sieve Trays
Perforated active deck, typically 13 mm holes (range 6–25 mm). Turndown ratio (maximum:minimum load): 2:1 standard. Lower cost than movable valve trays.
EVER-CON DF
Dual Flow Trays
Sieve trays without downcomers. Hole size 6 mm (clean) to 25 mm (fouling). Open area 10–25%. Heat transfer and fouling applications.
EVER-CON BF
Baffle / Shower / Disc & Donut
High open area (40–50%) trays for heavy oil, FCC slurry sections, coker wash, olefin quench bottoms. Where fouling resistance matters more than separation efficiency.
Mechanical solutions
Construction and installation
Cartridge Trays
Trays are assembled into a cartridge for installation and removal as a combined unit. They are suitable for smaller-diameter columns where access for individual tray installation is limited.
Boltless Construction
Proprietary boltless panel-to-panel connection. Eliminates fasteners, reduces installation time by 20–30%, improves valve coverage across the panel. Available as an option on EVERFRAC.
Horizontal Installation
Special steps are taken to install the trays at a vessel vendor’s workshop, so that field installation work is minimised on site and start-up can proceed with minimal issues.
